    LIUPCP celebrates International Women’s Day 2022 across the cities


    DHAKA, MARCH 8 (2022): Livelihoods Improvement of Urban Poor Communities Project (LIUPCP) has celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD) 2022 across different city corporations and paurashavas with festivity and funfair as elsewhere across the globe highlighting women’s rights and equality.

    The theme for International Women’s Day 2022 was “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.” The Day is observed every year on March 8 to celebrate the women’s  struggle for equality.

    Elaborate programs were organized in 19 city corporations and paurashavas across the country.

    LIUPCP programs along with key stakeholders has drawn public attention to the activism of women and girls of urban poor settlements who are challenging the deeply rooted gender norms, stereotypes and discriminatory practices.

    This project celebrates IWD 2022 in order to mobilize women and girls of urban poor settlements in a way so that they realize their rights, contribution and role while engaging men and boys together to act against gender-based violence, injustice, or kind of deprivation.

    Different city corporations and paurashavas, including Cumilla, Cox’s Bazar, Gopalganj, Noakhali, Patuakhali, Chandpur, Narayanganj, Saidpur, Khulna and Rajshahi have organized series of events such as colorful rally, essay completion, cultural drama and other school-based campaigns disseminating messages on women rights as human rights, breaking stereotypes, social stigma and way forward to prevent current increasing rate of gender-based violence.

    Other cities like Dhaka North, Dhaka South, Chittagong, Sylhet, Mymensingh, Kushtia, Faridpur, Rangpur, Gazipur also celebrated the IWD 2022. These cities collaborated with City Corporation, Municipalities, Department of women Affairs, local cultural team, schools and community people.
