    PSC lauds LIUPCP for COVID-19 emergency response


    DHAKA, September 28, 2020: Members of the Project Steering Committee of the Livelihoods Improvement of Urban Poor Communities Project (LIUPCP) have appreciated the progress made by the project in different city corporations and paurashava across the country.

    Dsc 0781They also appreciated the role by the project in COVID-19 emergency response in reaching out to the urban poor with hand washing facilities, cash assistance and food baskets as well as lifesaving messages by working closely with the officials of the City administrations.

    Dsc 0785Their appreciation came at the 2nd National Project Steering Committee (NPSC) Meeting of the LIUPC Project held online through zoom.
    SudiptoHelal Uddin Ahmed, Senior Secretary, Local Government Division (LGD) under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development & Cooperatives (MoLGRD&C) chaired the meeting.

    John 3The LGD Senior Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed appreciated and thanked the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) formerly known as DFID and UNDP for supporting urban poverty initiatives in Bangladesh and reaffirmed his support for the implementation of the project activities.

    Nha 2Abdul Mannan, National Project Director, LIUPC Project, in his speech briefly illustrated progresses being made over the last one year.

    Akand 2The meeting discussed on low-cost housing for the urban poor and the LIUPC project has developed guidelines in this regard. Sudipto Mukerjee, Resident Representative of UNDP Bangladesh, John Warburton, Team Leader, Extreme Poverty, Resilience and Climate Change, & Senior Environment Adviser, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), Md. Delwar Haidar, Additional Secretary & Chairman, National Housing Authority, Md. Shafiqul Islam Akand, Additional Chief Engineer, Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) and Nasir Uddin Ahamed, Mayor Chandpur Paurashava, also spoke.

Asaduzzaman, Senior Project Manager, UNDP Bangladesh, representatives from federations were present, among others.
